AGATE
- Agate is a variety of chalcedony formed from layers of quartz which usually show varicolored bands. It usually occurs as rounded nodules or veins. It is found all over the world including: Africa, Asia, Brazil, Egypt, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, Nepal, and the USA.

Agate is believed to discern truth, accept circumstances, and is a powerful emotional healer. Legend says that Agate improves memory and concentration, increases stamina and encourages honesty. Agate is said to be particularly beneficial to people born under the sign of Gemini as it helps them to remain calm and focused.

 

It is believed to prevent insomnia and ensure pleasant dreams; to enhance personal courage and protect one against danger. Agate provides a calming influence, improves perception, concentration and helps to develop and increase one's analytical skills.



AMAZONITE - Amazonite is a gem variety of microcline feldspar and is usually polished as a cabochon. It displays a schiller of light which is caused by inclusions. Schiller is a lustrous reflection from planes in a mineral grain and is similar to what is more commonly known as iridescence. The schiller is caused by a feature of the stone's crystal structure. Orthoclase feldspar and albite are present in close association, arranged in layers. This causes an interference effect of light. Amazonite is found in the United States, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Russia, Australia, and Namibia.  It is usually light green to blue-green, mottled and sometimes contains light striations.

 

Amazonite Folklore, Legend, and Healing Properties:

 

Amazonite is a mint green to aqua green stone of truth, honor, communication, integrity and trust. It is said to enhance intuition, psychic powers, creativity, intellect, and psychic ability. Amazonite is often associated with the throat chakra, and as such, can be beneficial to communication. It aligns the physical and astral bodies. It can lessen stress and self-defeating behaviors by calming and building self-esteem. Amazonite can assist with peacefully making the transition out of this life. Amazonite is said to heal emotional disturbances and the after effects of emotional trauma. It is reputed to have spiritual energy healing powers of preventive energy that's good for one's health in general, decreasing heart problems, benefiting the muscles, helping the nervous system, lessening tooth decay and osteoporosis.

 

A semi-opaque stone that was used extensively by the Egyptians, it is called the stone of courage and is said to be named after the Amazon women warriors. Some archaeological evidence suggests that the Amazonians were a matriarchal society during the Bronze Age.

 

Another legend says the name Amazonite comes from the belief that it was found in the Amazon River.



BOTSWANA AGATE - Botswana agate is sometimes called the "change stone" because of its mystical property of helping one handle change in a positive way. It is said to gently help one make transitions of any kind in a way that change is not as difficult or painful as could be without it; it is a comforting stone. Carrying a bit of Botswana agate in your pocket is said to help one cope easily with the minor changes that life throws at us daily.

Relief from depression and/or grief is another metaphysical energy of Botswana agate. It is said to help us focus on solutions instead of problems, and thereby increases creativity, as well as increasing the power of one's intuition. Botswana agate is noted in crystal healing to be helpful in overcoming addictions and other self-destructive compulsive behavior patterns, as well as dealing with repressed emotional issues. BRECCIATED JASPER - Brecciated Jasper (sometimes spelled brecceated jasper or bracciated jasper) has the qualities of enhancing organizational abilities, relaxation, and a sense of wholeness. It is occasionally used to assist when dowsing. It aligns the chakras and balances the yin-yang, physical, and emotional. It is a stone of protection, and is used in particular for protection during astral travel. Brecciated jasper encourages attunement and communication with animals and can help with animal allergies, plus other allergies. It brings happiness and a good outlook on life and eases stress. Brecciated jasper can help increase physical endurance and ward off dehydration. It is also a good stone for grounding oneself and is associated with the root chakra.



CHALCEDONY -The term chalcedony is derived from the name of the ancient Greek town Chalkedon in Asia Minor.

 

Chalcedony, which is found worldwide, is the name for a group of stones made of a microcrystalline or cryptocrystalline variety of quartz, which means the quartz crystals are too small to be seen without high magnification. In jewelry usage, the name Chalcedony is usually applied only to the light blue translucent and waxy form. Other stones in this group are know as agate, jasper, petrified wood, bloodstone, petrified dinosaur bone, fire agate, tiger's eye, chrysocolla, chrysoprase, onyx, sardonyx, and carnelian

 

Chalcedony is found in almost every color including: white, gray, black, brown, brownish red, orange, yellow, light to dark green, blue, lavender or, in the case of agates and jaspers, combinations of those colors. Blue Chalcedony is sometimes called "Mohave" and "Mt. Airy blues", originating in California and Nevada, these are a slight to moderate grayish blue color, ranging from a light to medium color intensity. Blue chalcedony from Namibia, often called "African blue", ranges from grayish to nearly pure blue and from light to medium dark. The most valuable blue chalcedony is sourced from Oregon, USA. Its blue color is slightly modified by traces of pink, resulting in a noticeably lavender gemstone, which is nonetheless referred to as "holly blue."

Native American Indians believed chalcedony was a sacred stone and used in the spiritual ceremonies of the tribe.

It is thought to increase vitality, stamina, and endurance and to promote emotional balance and charity while relieving melancholy, fever, gallstones, and eye problems.


CHAROITE - Charoite is a powerful crystal for all of us, but it is especially important for healers, as it inspires you to be of service to others and to Spirit. It is also highly protective, and it is a powerful stone to protect you from psychic attack. By its action within the higher chakras, it creates a perfect integration of energy. As this energy moves down from the higher transpersonal chakras, it provides a soul connection, that assists you to take the next steps on your spiritual journey.


The meaning of this stone relates to where it comes from, as it is named after the location where it is found, near the Chara River in Russia. Russian Charoite is very beautiful, and while its color is predominantly purple, it is known to have swirling patterning of black, brown, white and lilac within the stone.


CHRYSOCOLLA -The gemstone Chrysocolla is often confused with turquoise. It is a copper bearing mineral found wherever copper deposits occur, especially in areas of southwestern USA, Chili, Zaire, Australia, France and England.

 

Chrysocolla Folklore, Legend, and Healing Properties:

 

Chrysocolla is associated with tranquility and peace, intuition, patience, and unconditional love. It can be used to purify a place or remove negativity from a person. It is a very gentle stone and its energy works in a gentle, harmonious way. It can help ease fear, anxiety, and guilt. It is also used to communicate with the spiritual forces of the Earth. Physically, it is good for treating asthma, emphysema, TB, pneumonia, muscle cramps, spasms, arthritis, headaches, particularly tension headaches, and is used for protection during pregnancy and childbirth. Chrysacolla is primarily related to the throat chakra, although it can be used on the heart and solar plexus chakras.

It is thought to offer gentle and soothing qualities.



DRUZY - Drusy, druse, druzy, drusies - different spellings, but they all mean tiny quartz crystals that form within or on the surface of other stones.

 

When ground water carrying dissolved silica is forced into a porous area of the rock, rapid cooling often occurs, causing the formation of tiny crystals on the surfaces or in cavities of the rock. The clear crystals often form on top of previously deposited minerals. This is called a drusy. Some minerals found in this form are chrysocolla, malachite, hematite, psilomelane, uvarovite, pyrite, carnelian and cobalto-calcite.



FLAME AGATE - Flame Agate is a member of the agate family. Like all agates, it has the energetic properties of agate, as well as its own energies. Flame agate is used in spiritual healing and growth to bring supportive vital energy for this growth and awareness. It is also said to be a great helper during all times of transition, bringing clarity to ease the way. Physically, flame agate is used in crystal healing for pain healing and particularly treatment of burns. Flame agate is associated with the first through third chakras.



FLOURITE - Fluorite promotes spiritual and psychic wholeness and development, truth, protection, and brings peace. It protects psychically and in the physical realm. It helps one meditate and learn to go past the "chatter" that our minds tend to generate when first learning to meditate. It can help get rid of mental blocks and similar mental issues. Physically it helps general health throughout the body's main skeletal and muscular systems. All colors are also good for auric cleansing. Mixed colors bring enhanced protection in the areas enhanced by all combined types. Clear fluorite guards against psychic attack and strengthens consciousness. Blue fluorite has the quality of protecting the emotions and restoring emotional balance. Purple fluorite strengthens mystical insight, psychic awareness, and can open the third eye. Green fluorite is an excellent all purpose healing stone that promotes healing on all levels. It also promotes self-love.


FUSCHITE - Fuchsite is a lovely green form of Muscovite Mica. Held in the light, its amazing sparkle just seems to draw the eyes to it!

It is a stone with strong metaphysical properties that is very beneficial for everyone to have in their vicinity. It is especially helpful for who regularly try to save others from themselves, when it might be better to let the person to take responsibility for their own health concerns.

Even if you are not a healer, it may help you to look after your own needs and requirements, and the health of your loved ones, when you need to.


Fuchsite or Fuschite is mainly found in Brazil, and is a variety of Muscovite. It was named after the German mineralogist Johann Fuchs.

It has also been found in Russia and India. Its color is due to the presence of chromium in it, as it is the green form of Muscovite Mica.



JADE - The most valuable form of jade is known as imperial jade and comes from Myanmar, it is an emerald green color. Jades also appear in mottled green and white, and the rarer colors of yellow, pink, purple, and black. The range of greens is light to dark, creamy, grayish, and also white. A leek green variety called "Russian Jade" is found near Lake Baikal in Russia.

 

Jade is also found in Mexico, and Central and South America. Because of its smooth even texture, jade has long been a preferred material for carving and is usually cut into cabochons for jewelry.

Jade is thought to protect the kidneys, liver, spleen, heart, larynx, thymus, and thyroid. Ancient people thought that wearing jade would increase body strength and add longevity. Jade is an ancient symbol of love and virtue and is considered the stone of the heart. As such it is related to the heart chakra and has a beneficial effect on all heart chakra related issues. So, of course, it can attract and enhance love of all kinds. It is also a stone of fidelity and generosity. It is also considered to be good for the physical heart and for emotional balance and stability. Jade is also very helpful as a stone of abundance. Physically, jade is used to heal lung problems, kidney problems, immune system weakness, PTSD, and nervous system overwork.



JASPER - Jasper is an opaque and fine grained variety of chalcedony. It is found in all colors including: red, brown, pink, yellow, green, grey/white and shades of blue and purple.

It often contains organic material and mineral oxides which gives it interesting patterns, bands and colors. Many of these patterns resemble landscapes with mountains and valleys, thus the name "picture" is part of the name of many well know jaspers.

Found worldwide, a wide variety of named jaspers are found in the western areas of the Unites States; California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming and Washington.

Poppy Jasper is said to help bring joy into life. Opalite Jasper is said to help one sleep.

 Legend says that Jasper would drive away evil spirits and protect one against snake and spider bites. In the fourth century, it was thought to bring about rain. Jasper is protective. It can align all the chakras and balance yin-yang energies; it is stabilizing and healing.



KAMBABA JASPER - Kambaba Jasper is an exotic-looking jasper from Africa. It is said to mystically soothe the nerves and state of mind. As with other jaspers, traditional lore says that it is good for grounding and protection. It is purported to be beneficial for plant growth and health, particularly in arid environments or where the soil is poor. Crystal healing lore says that Kambaba Jasper helps dietary stabilization, assimilation of vitamins and minerals, and cleansing the body of toxins.



KYANITE - Kyanite is a gemstone quality aluminum silicate sometimes referred to as disthene, rhaeticite or cyanite. Its name is derived from the Greek word 'kuanos' or 'kyanos', which means 'deep blue', alluding to its typical blue color. Kyanite deposits can be found in many locations around the world. Some of the most important sources include Austria, Burma, Brazil, Cambodia, India, Kenya, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Serbia, Switzerland, Tanzania, the United States (Connecticut, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia) and Zimbabwe.


Kyanite Folklore, Legend and Healing Properties:

Kyanite is believed to aid with self-expression and communication. It is also thought to strengthen supernatural abilities. In ancient times, it was believed that when kyanite was suspended from a human hair, it could follow the Earth's magnetic force in the same manner as a compass needle. For this reason, many travelers took kyanite along with them when they went on long journeys and entered unknown territories. In addition, kyanite is thought to be able to open the body's center for communication. It is often used for deep meditation and is best worn near the throat chakra, though it is thought to have a balancing effect on all chakras.




MALACHITE - Malachite is a popular stone which has light and dark green banded areas.  Many beautiful specimens of malachite contain special combinations with other minerals, such as azurite, cuprite, or chrysocolla.

Malachite is a stone of transformation and helps with change and spiritual evolution. It can clear and activate all chakras, as well as balance them. Malachite is a stone that bridges the energy of the heart and root chakras. It is particularly useful for balancing and clearing the heart chakra. As such, it helps balance pure love, romance, and one's own well-being. Malachite is a stone of good fortune and prosperity/abundance, too. It is also believed to help improve circulation, enhance healing of all types, and overcome digestive or intestinal disorders. Green moss agate is said to assist in finding hidden treasure, and is a stone of prosperity.



OCEAN JASPER - Ocean Jasper is very soothing and helps to love one's self as well as others. It is very healing of the emotions and brings peace of mind. It helps with acceptance of responsibility and increases patience. The circulars patterns on ocean jasper symbolize and help us realize that we are all interconnected and nature is a cyclical pattern. It can also help with circular breathing for healing or meditation. Being a type of jasper, ocean jasper is a very protective stone, and any orbs ("eyes") enhance this in regard to protection from the "evil eye." Physically, ocean jasper is beneficial to the digestion, digestive organs, removing toxins, lessen body odor. Ocean Jasper is related to the heart chakra.



PICASSO JASPER - Picasso Marble (or Picasso Stone) is sometimes called Picasso Jasper. It has strong metaphysical qualities of grounding and calming. It also promotes weight loss and assists in the development of creativity, as well as engendering strength and self-discipline.



PIETERSITE - also known as the "Tempeststone", was discovered by Sid Pieters in Namibia, South Africa. Pietersite crystallizes in the form of masses, the structure a result of inclusions in jasper. The color is blue/black and the mineral exhibits a chatoyant quality (Schiller-like).

It carries the energy of the 'storm' element, and can purify one's body and energies. RHYOLITE - Rhyolite is very closely related to granite. The difference is rhyolite has much finer crystals. These crystals are so small that they can not be seen by the naked eye. Rhyolite is an extrusive igneous rock having cooled much more rapidly than granite, giving it a glassy appearance. The minerals that make up rhyolite are quartz, feldspar, mica, and hornblende.



RHODONITE - Rhodonite crystals are known for their capacity to bring emotional healing and to release blocked energy from within the heart chakra. They have a strong heart based energy that has a useful healing vibration to help with relationship problems. By its action to stimulate acceptance, forgiveness and unconditional love towards others, it helps to bring peace to troubled relationships.These stones are an excellent balancer of the emotions, and during traumatic times, this stone can be used to calm you.

The name Rhodonite comes from the Greek word meaning 'a rose', which relates to its rose pink color. These stones come in a range of colors from pale pink though to a deep rose pink almost red. Although the lighter pink stones are becoming more popular you will see many stones that are a deeper pink or magenta stones with inclusions of black manganese oxide in them.

This green stone is a type of clinochlore and is also known as Serafina and by its original name of Green Chlorite. This green stone is mainly found in the Lake Baikal area in Siberia, Russia.


These lovely stones are known for the beautiful mixture of the deep green color, shot through with lovely silver markings that in many Seraphinite stones resemble beautiful angel wings.


STICHITE - Stichtite will help you if you want to stimulate kundalini awakening, and combines well with Green Serpentine and a number of other stones that are used for this purpose. It also has a profoundly loving vibration, that has a strong effect within the heart chakra and thymus chakra, or higher heart.

Stichite is helpful to heal unresolved issues, as it stimulates feelings of love, compassion, forgiveness and healing of emotional distress.

STROMATOLITES - Stromatolites, colonial structures created by cyanobacteria (commonly called blue-green algae) are among the oldest fossils on earth, found in rocks over 3 billion years old. Once the dominant life form on the planet, stromatolites are now found in only a few places, such as Hamelin Pool, near Shark Bay, Australia.

Cyanobacteria form these mound-like structures by growing through sediment, binding the particles together resulting in successive layers, which over very long time periods, may harden to form rocks. These structures range from fractions of an inch to several feet in diameter.



TIGER EYE - Tiger's eye (tiger eye, tiger iron) is a member of the quartz group of chalcedonies. It is one of the chatoyant gemstones. Chatoyancy exhibits a changeable silky luster as light is reflected within the thin parallel fibrous bands. This effect is due to the fibrous structure of the material.

 

Tiger iron is composed of tiger's eye, red jasper and black hematite. The rippled wavy bands of color often resemble a scenic view. Marra Mamba is a form of tiger iron found in one area of Australia near Mount Brockman. It is a very rare type of tiger iron that contains shades of red, green, yellow, and blue. This area has been mined out for many years so very little of the "true" marra mamba is available today.
